AKADEMOS: Anthony Cragg | Things in the head

February 24 to June 13, 2011
at the MKM Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art, Duisburg

With Tony Cragg, the MKM is presenting one of the most versatile and important sculptors of our time. The retrospective exhibition, which the artist played a major role in shaping, brings together works from four decades. Entitled “Things in the Head”, it features around 50 sculptures as well as drawings and graphics by Cragg from fundamental phases of his work. Spread over 1,000 m², the exhibition offers an insight into the artist’s entire oeuvre and juxtaposes early works with his most recent production.

Academics

The exhibition is part of the Akademos series, which presents the work of professors from the Düsseldorf Art Academy in loose succession. “A whole series of artists from the MKM collection began their artistic careers at the Düsseldorf Academy,” explains Director Walter Smerling. “The exhibition series is an expression of our interest in the work of these artists, but also in their fellow professors who are not part of the collection.” Tony Cragg first taught in Düsseldorf between 1988 and 2001 and again since 2005. He has been Rector of the Academy since 2009.
