Deutsche Bank Foundation Youth Art Prize 2008

January 30 – February 8, 2009
MKM Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art, Duisburg

In 2008, 20 schools from all over Germany took part in the “Jugend interpretiert Kunst” (Youth interprets art) competition and tackled the museum art of our time with creativity, commitment and organizational skills. The pupils from Aachen, Arnsberg, Bamberg, Brühl, Dortmund, Duisburg, Erkrath, Kiel, Cologne, Königswinter, Husum, Kornwestheim, Mönchengladbach, Münster, Obergünzburg, Ottweiler, Paderborn, Rüsselsheim, Seelow and Wiehl had the opportunity to experience the original works of art in the MKM in detail under art education supervision, ask lots of questions, discuss and analyze the art and finally create their own works.

The students’ works have now been viewed by the jury, which includes artists Abraham David Christian and Markus Lüpertz as well as advertising agency boss Coordt von Mannstein, MKM Director Walter Smerling and collector Sylvia Ströher. The jurors were impressed by the quality of the 20 works submitted and, after a lively discussion, the majority agreed on the three winners of the Deutsche Bank Foundation Youth Art Prize. The creative independence in dealing with the works of art in the museum was an important criterion.

Placement:

  1. Prize: Eichendorff-Gymnasium, Bamberg
  2. Prize: Gymnasium am Neandertal, Erkrath
  3. Prize: Ernst-Sigle-Gymnasium, Kornwestheim
