July 10 to August 28, 2005
MKM Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art
The MKM presents the Cologne artist Franziskus Wendels, whose current work can be described under the motto “Secrets of the Night”. The versatile artist (*1960), who teaches fine arts at the University of Mainz, studied theology and art history in addition to his artistic training at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Montpellier.
Rural exodus – Franziskus Wendels takes the viewer on a walk through a nocturnal city or a drive along nocturnal streets.
Twilight and blurred contours stimulate the viewer’s imagination and challenge him to transfer what he perceives into his own imaginary world. The pictures show no people, no action. With his pictures, Wendels provides the stage, the props, the imaginative space that the viewer can fill with stories. You witness an event that only takes place in your own head.
