Gotthard Graubner | “Painting”

MKM Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art, Duisburg

On the occasion of Gotthard Graubner’s 70th birthday in 2000, the MKM Museum Küppersmühle presented the exhibition Gotthard Graubner. Painting and drawing which had previously been shown at the Staatliche Kunstsammlung Dresden. The show was dedicated to the multifaceted work of one of the most important representatives of color field painting in Germany and presented a selection of characteristic works from several decades – including paintings, color space bodies and drawings.

Graubner’s artistic work is characterized by an intensive exploration of color as an independent medium of expression. In his often large-format works, color eludes all representationalism and unfolds a meditative depth. The exhibition at the MKM offered the public an impressive overview of Graubner’s consistent work development and his search for a color space that can be experienced by the senses.
