MKM Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art
Günther Uecker, one of the most influential German artists of recent decades, is a personality with many interests and creative talents. To mark his 75th birthday, the MKM is dedicating an extensive exhibition to him, offering an overview of the artist’s diverse oeuvre. On display are various themed rooms – from the early works to the nailed objects and sand paintings to the time spirals. In the clear architecture of the MKM, the works unfold a strong, intense effect.
“The real work is not yet done…” These words by Günther Uecker once again demonstrate the vitality and unbroken creative drive of this artist, who has had a decisive influence on the German and international art scene for many decades. The well-known nail, which he transformed into a metaphysical object and which became a kind of trademark, is only one aspect of his extensive oeuvre. Nails, knives, hammers, but also sand, stones or characters are means of expression that thematize the “endangerment of man by man”.
