June 24 to September 7, 2008
MKM Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art
Around 65 paintings by the artist (*1935) are on display, which draw the viewer into a veritable frenzy of color, as Gonschior, who lives in Bochum and Berlin, is one of the most important German color painters of modernism. Formerly a student of K.O. Götz, he was himself a professor of free painting at the UdK Berlin from 1982 to 2000 and took part in documenta 6, among others.
Many of the works in the exhibition were created especially for this occasion or have never been exhibited before. The oldest picture in the show dates back to 1959, the most recent will be created during the installation when Kuno Gonschior transforms a 60m² wall of the museum into a painting. Gonschior will also set up one of his famous dark color drip rooms, which were first created in the 1960s, in the MKM.
