MKM Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art
Heinz Mack’s topicality is unbroken – light is the central theme of his multifaceted artistic work. The MKM is dedicating an exhibition of previously unseen works to the pioneer of light and kinetic art, focusing on large-format canvases and sculptures. The highlight of the exhibition is a walk-in color room designed by the artist especially for the show: “A room for Apollo”.
Together with the color and light effects of the walls, seven freely distributed, narrow color steles transform the surroundings into an energy field that becomes an almost unreal experience for the viewer. Seeing itself becomes the focus. The exhibition also presents kinetic objects and utopian models. Film documents about the artist and biographical footage illustrating the career and important stages in the artistic development of the “light magician” Heinz Mack complete the exhibition tour.
