Rolf-Gunter Dienst – Diary of the pictures. A look into the estate.

Exhibition in the Oberlichtsaal of the MKM from April 23, 2026

The artist, author and publisher Rolf-Gunter Dienst (*1942 Kiel) created paintings and graphics, wrote his own writings and also collected art and literature himself. With over one hundred exhibits from the years 1960 to 2014, this exhibition provides an insight into the estate, which has been managed by the MKM Foundation since 2022.

Rolf-Gunter Dienst was active as an artist and writer in all creative phases of his life. His works combine both, for example in his early idea of a diary of moments: he painted at least one picture every day until the end of his life.

Through visiting professorships, scholarships and prizes, he lived and worked in Paris, Rome, Australia and Japan, among other places. His life’s work reflects the postmodern art movements of his time. Rolf-Gunter Dienst died in Baden-Baden in 2016, shortly before the opening of his major solo exhibition at Museum Küppersmühle.
