The MKM is delighted to present a large, comprehensive exhibition of the multidisciplinary and internationally renowned artist Susan Hefuna for the first time in Germany. The exhibition, put together by Swiss curator Stephan Kunz in close collaboration with the artist, features numerous groups of works by Susan Hefuna from the last 35 years.
The exhibition Susan Hefuna – passage at the MKM comprises over 400 works by the artist. The groups of works from different decades form a passage through her artistic universe and her comprehensive, multi-layered oeuvre. Hefuna uses a broad spectrum of media in her forms of expression, ranging from drawing, sculpture and installation to video, photography and performance.
Hefuna’s extensive oeuvre makes culturally and socially relevant themes visible, which are at the same time personally shaped. Through her Egyptian and German roots as well as her numerous travels and stays in many countries around the world, she enriches and inspires with her independent forms of expression. Hefuna plays with the culturally conditioned gaze of the viewer and the multi-layered meanings of image and text in their respective contexts.
