The viewing platform offers a breathtaking view of Duisburg and the Ruhr region and will be an attractive excursion destination for tourists and art lovers.
The new viewing platform with its panoramic view is a highlight that represents a significant attraction for both the city of Duisburg and the museum.
The Lord Mayor of the City of Duisburg, Sören Link, Linda Wagner, Head of Cultural Affairs for the City of Duisburg, and Walter Smerling, Director of the MKM Museum Küppersmühle, are delighted with this great addition to Duisburg’s urban landscape.
In 2024, the Küppersmühle Museum will open its new viewing platform, which offers a breathtaking view over Duisburg and the Ruhr region. 40 meters above the silos of the old grain mill in Duisburg’s inner harbour, the platform sets a further accent in the museum, which was rebuilt and extended by the renowned Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron.
“The Küppersmühle Museum has become an important attraction for our city. The new viewing platform now offers another attractive excursion destination that not only invites Duisburg residents to visit, but also gives tourists a wonderful view over Duisburg,” says Lord Mayor Sören Link.
Walter Smerling, Director of the MKM Museum Küppersmühle adds: “For decades, the Küppersmühle was a supplier of food for the region. Today it provides spiritual nourishment. It offers a fascinating insight into the visual arts and a view of the Ruhr region. The MKM is therefore a cultural beacon that radiates far beyond Duisburg.”
In ideal weather conditions, the platform offers a panoramic view of numerous well-known Duisburg landmarks, including the Landschaftspark Nord, the Rheinpreußen slag heap, the Salvatorkirche, the NRW State Archive, the town hall, the municipal theater and the “Goldene Leiter”. The Rhine Tower and the skyline of Düsseldorf, the city forest in Mülheim and the gasometer in Oberhausen are also visible. The opening of the viewing platform underlines the Küppersmühle Museum’s commitment to presenting exceptional architecture and art in a unique setting. “The new viewing platform at the MKM will further increase the attractiveness of the museum city of Duisburg,” says Linda Wagner, Head of Cultural Affairs.
Tours of the viewing platform are offered from Friday to Sunday between April 1 and September 30 of each year, weather permitting, at 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm or by special arrangement.
Access to the platform costs EUR 4. Even with discounted or free tickets, the admission price for the platform remains the same. A binding appointment reservation is required to view the platform.
