Currently at the MKM: Bernd Koberling. Works 1963 – 2017

Anyone who has primarily stored Bernd Koberling as a "New Wild One" will be surprised by the diversity of his work. With around 90 paintings from six decades, the MKM is hosting the artist's most extensive retrospective to date. At the center of the exhibition are large-format color landscapes of recent times, in which Koberling strikes an unusually lyrical tone. They are being presented in a museum for the first time at the MKM and some of them were created especially for the exhibition.

Bernd Koberling (born 1938) is one of Germany’s most influential painter personalities. The artist became particularly well known in the 1980s as one of the ‘fathers’ of the so-called “Neue Wilde”, whose subjective, powerful visual language was in contrast to intellectual and conceptual art. The MKM is now hosting Bernd Koberling’s most comprehensive retrospective to date: Around 80 paintings from six decades of artistic creation demonstrate the enormous stylistic diversity of his work to date. Koberling found his life’s theme – the landscape – early on and has remained true to it for over 50 years, always in search of the essence of color and image.
