Sound and performance in dialog with image and space

Musicians of the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra - The dates: Wed. 08.11.2023 | Wed. 14.02.2024 | Wed. 03.04.2024

How does sound and movement change the relationship between people and works of art? The musicians of the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra will once again wander through the rooms of the MKM Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art in Duisburg. Positive feedback and sold-out concerts have led to three further Wandelkonzerte concerts, made possible by the generous support of Sparkasse Duisburg.

Visitors to the concert are also invited to join in the movement and exploration of the sound spaces. The first concert in the continuation of the “Sound and Image in Dialogue” series on Wednesday, November 8, will focus on works from the MKM’s current temporary exhibitions. While the viewer of Christoph M. Gais’ “Bilderwelten” (Worlds of Images) is confronted with faces from the isolation of the Corona pandemic, the artworks “In Black and White and in Color” by Heinz Kreutz show us how a young, war-wounded soldier was seduced by cigarette packets into painting instead of smoking.

Using contemporary compositions as well as traditional music from other cultures, the musicians create new layers and surfaces that overlap with the paintings and open up new spaces for visitors. The works of art are “rediscovered through sounds and music in order to open up new perspectives and angles on the paintings”, as director and curator Ludger Engels aptly summarizes the concept behind the sound installations.

The Wandelkonzerte concerts take place on the following dates:
Wednesday November 08, 2023
Wednesday February 14, 2024
Wednesday April 03, 2024

Each at 7.30 pm at the MKM Museum Küppersmühle für Moderne Kunst in Duisburg
Venue: MKM Museum Küppersmühle für Moderne Kunst, Duisburg Participation fee: €15 incl. admission to the MKM half an hour before the concert begins
