September 19 to October 19, 2008
MKM Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art
The Duisburger Künstlerbund is the city’s earliest artists’ association, and the Museum Küppersmühle is dedicating an extensive group show to its members – “18 from Duisburg” – from September 19 to October 19, 2008. This continues the traditional series of exhibitions by Duisburg artists in the city. Since 2002, the presentations have alternated between the Museum Küppersmühle, the Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum Foundation and the Cubus Kunsthalle.
The exhibition is a cooperation between the Museum Küppersmühle and the Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum Foundation. The curators of the exhibition are the directors of both museums, Walter Smerling and Prof. Dr. Christoph Brockhaus. They have reviewed the material submitted by the artists and made a joint selection for the exhibition. The diversity of content and techniques not only reflects the individual perspective and formal language of each artist, but is also a cross-section of our time. For both curators, the project is essentially about the artistic identity of the region, which the Duisburger Künstlerbund has played a decisive role in shaping since its foundation.
