MKM meets Duisburger Philharmoniker

Nils Szczepanski, artistic director of the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and MKM director Walter Smerling present their plans for the new cooperation: in future, the bright exhibition rooms of the Küppersmühle Museum will be regularly filled with the sounds of the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra - music responding to art. Already in this season, two concerts with different instrumentation will take place that musically address the themes of art.

Sun, 29 May 2022 | 8 pm in the permanent collection of the MKM
Sun, 12 June 2022 | 11 am in the Raimund Girke exhibition at the MKM

In the MKM’s permanent collection, Christoph Schneider and Andreas Reinhard (clarinet), Carl-Sönje Montag and Laszlo Kerekes (bassoon) and Magdalena Ernst and Juan Guzman Esteban (horn) will present wind literature by Johann Christian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven, among others, on 29 May.

At the Wandelkonzert on 12 June, “mixed media on canvas” and “Lydian key” come together: A string quartet, a clarinet and a bayan accompany the Raimund Girkes retrospective with a programme between classical and modern. Works by Beethoven, Messiaen and Preinfalk, among others, respond to the “sound of silence” evoked by Girke’s paintings.
